Boasting an open-air bath and views of mountain, Onsen Guest House Tsutaya is a recently renovated ryokan situated in Hakone, 6.5 km from Hakone-Yumoto Station. The hotel was a very nice surprise when we visited Japan. The shared bathroom was a unique experience, the traditional room was worth the visit and the hotel offered a very relaxing onsen. It is in a nice location (near bus stations, among trees), with very friendly and helpful staff.

Kusatsu Onsen Eidaya is located in Kusatsu. The property is a 10-minute walk from Kusatsu Yubatake and Kusatsu-Onsen Bus Terminal. We had 2 very relaxing days at Kusatsu Onsen Eidaya. The room was large, the Futons were extraordinary comfortable. The food was amazing. The 3 private Onsen rooms are awesome. Thank you. We will come back.

Opened in 1878, Fujiya Hotel features Meiji Era architecture set in Hakone’s natural beauty. Beautiful, clean and comfortable! Great rooms and very friendly staff.

Hot Spring Inn Hakone Suisen offers a hot spring bath and free private parking, and is within 4.2 km of Hakone-Yumoto Station and 3.6 km of Kowakudani Station. Very welcoming and helpful Hotel staff. Great location very close to station. Lovely onsen. Particularly liked the lounge with LPs & record player.

Providing lake views and a garden, Chuzenji Pension offers accommodation in a prime location in Nikko, within a short distance of Kegon Falls, Chuzenji Lake and Chuzenji Temple. Super friendly and helpful staff, everyone can speak English. Food is top-notch. The view from the room is magnificent.

Boasting mountain views, Hacho no Yu features accommodation with a spa and wellness centre, free bikes and a garden, around 43 km from Kegon Falls. They gave us japanese clothes (yukata) to walk around with in the hotel. The futons were super comfortable. We went during the week and there were not so many people, most of the time when we went to onsen we were the only people there as if it was a private one. The onsens were cleaned every day. We paid for the expensive dinner (according to their website) and it was totally worth it. The food amount was also enough and had a good diversity. Staff was very polite and responsive. Moreover, we had a balcony in the room where we could smoke cigarettes. If you plan to shower outside the onsen baths you might freeze to death on the way back to the room from the public bath. (In May). Getting to the hotel from Tokyo was also straight forward but it took some time.

Set in Hakone, Centurion Hakone Bettei offers 4-star accommodation with private balconies. There is an in-house restaurant, plus free private parking and free WiFi are available. The staff was amazing and super accommodating. The private onsen was a great experience and really nice that your room gets an hour per day.

Boasting a hot tub, Hakone Miyanoshita Myojokan is set in Hakone. The 3-star ryokan features mountain views and is 6.2 km from Hakone-Yumoto Station. The host went above and beyond in every way. From giving me directions on the route I should take to explore, to recommending restaurants, and advising on alternative modes of transportation. Additionally, the place is immaculately clean and the bath was lovely. I would highly recommend for any traveler.
